Four Trends at once: Mashable "Follow" and Liquid Internet, via Multiple Twitter Accounts | Revelnnovation

This YouTube video hits 4 EMERGING TRENDS right on the nose:
  • Custom experience:
    • What you see on your Facebook page, via your Google page, etc. adapts to your interests - I agree it is COOL not creepy.

  • Social Media integration:
    • Facebook posts to twitter,  twitter embeds in your Wordpress website via a twitter widget, YouTube embeds there too...

  • Video :
    • iPhone, HD video on cameras, getting easier to use all the time) and

  • The social media platform YouTube:
    • A thing, a platform, a trend 2nd only to Facebook as a trend.  Have you seen the movie?

I'll explain why Mashable's "Follow" video is a great trend setting via the four bullets above with the rest of my posts below, using my multiple twitter accounts because:

1)  I want to see if my tweets carry the message

2)  I'm wanting to prove to myself at least, I know what I'm doing with those multiple twitter accounts.

3)  I want to share my excitement and passion about what's emerging with social media:  community and connection and transparency = authentic voice, and

4)  I want to share my love of video, with tools and the YouTube platform that make it easier and easier.   (iPad2 video editing, iPhone capture, HD cameras as small as can be.)

The impetus for all this was via the WCCC Business to Business Expo, 2011, yesterday.    I was happy to meet @AstralRoad1 Founder Rich Fahle, formerly in Marketing with Borders & on the ground floor with the EXPLOSION of video. He was on a panel and also presented a video session.  Stay tuned, there will be more to come!

I'll now demonstrate playing with the niches of my four twitter personas via discussing my learning per Rich Fahle @ AstralRoad and Astral Road Brand Media 

My Four Twitter personas talk about Trends circa 2011: 
 

1.  My RevelnCoaches persona, my newest, ties to my Social Media for Coaches, Consultants and Small Business Owners (a new LinkedIn open group) that launched in January 2011 and is taking off like a horse with its tail on fire.

The new teleclass in Social Media has filled to max via word of mouth and my on-line info, helped by my basic skills in video, starting with iPhone videos that evolved to HD video  (my brand new teleclass page with my story) using my new Lumix video camera (the size of the iPhones stacked on each other, that I carry it in my purse).

2.  My more informal @dnrevel persona, is my oldest.  I engage in more banter here.  I sometimes challenge my community connections from time to time, all in the spirit of community.  I believe conflict is neutral, is BEST handled NOT in social media.  I've experienced it two times in twitter in ways I think were less than helpful or genuine, more ego driven.  If there's fun, banter, the occasional conflict or exploration of something very new, , @dnrevel may be the persona on the scene.

There is a reason I generally like to hang around techie types, and am married to a particular brand of one.  For some, there's a lovely, dry sense of humor, a particular type of irreverence and "fight the system" and "fight working for the man" that enriches and adds proper balance to my anti-corporate (I'm not the Borg*) side. Yet, I do and will continue to choose  to work with and for corporations.  They are filled with lovely human beings that, like all of us I hope, desire to feel fully human and not herded into mechanistic silos and tunnels in order to make their numbers and pay the rent.  They have families, children, dreams.   Hackers provide great insights into this aspect of productivity when the bureaucracy turns sour, does not serve the masses, and just plain gets in the way.

That said, when interacting with some of them, sometimes, it feels like the death of me. Some are 90% snark. Some do not interact with people well at all, i.e. the "normal" bell curve of people out there. Don't get me started on I.Q. & forms intelligence takes in the natural world.  Fortunately, I have 27 lives, and have only lost 1 or 2 to attempts at communication with some aspects of this beloved but, in my experience, precocious problem child general group.  Psych types, I'm talking parent-adult-child interactions here.

God bless 'em (many agnostics and atheists and alternatives to my mainline religious views, out there, I'm glad to say.)  I'm glad they are out there to make work do-able when the normal ways of doing work just DON'T work.

Also:  Some of them make enough money that their salaries rival that of bank V.Ps.  There's a certain delight in that.  Especially when seeing their videos and reading their blogs, where they say anything they want.

That all said, I'm actually one of them.  I'm a shallow nerd type.  I love technology & gadgets.  I can do basic html and embed stuff.  I can create social media empire structures.  I can figure stuff out, with a little help from my deep techie friends including smartie pants, socially adept types.  I can see where technology accelerates human capabilities and builds relationships.  More power to we all in building our techie side, with every smart phone and iPad we buy.

PS:  The Borg are race of 1/2 robot - 1/2 human hive-oriented creatures from the iconic show, Star Trek.   The Borg are also a symbol in popular culture for any type of juggernaut against which "resistance is futile".  I am a Trekker from way back.  Seen all the movies.  Have opinions of the spin offs.  Love sci fi.  Even love Babylon 5 but not BattleStar Galactica.  Convinced I belong to the club?

Focus on the Right Action & Don't Protect Your Property, Digital & Electric | Sinek, GreenCar & Reveln

Simon Sinek makes a cogent point about Kodak's invention of digital camera technology. (Did you know that?) Focusing on the wrong thing with a protectionist and scarcity mentality can be fatal. GM illustrates it from another angle -- bad timing and PR problems in a too early introduction of an electric car. GM is back on the upswing with the Chevy Volt, hopefully better tuned to the lessons about what customers really want is not necessarily the product but the idea behind it.

Electric Cars and Green Tech Examples

Take this another step and consider green technology, trendy and current, including hybrids and electric cars.  Mishandled information several years ago resulted in a public relations disaster as well as the well known film "Who killed the Electric Car?"  A good outline of the GM "too early" electric car EV1 story includes these facts:

19. At the end of the EV1's short life, there were some lessees who rationalized that GM could have sold them their EV1 if offered a waiver of liability. No parts needed, no service required, no warranty expected. However, GM could no more abandon its responsibility to stock spare parts or provide service for EV1s for years to come than any automaker could cast away its responsibilities for any other current model vehicle, so this was not an option.

20. GM ultimately crushed all EV1s except for a small number that were permanently disabled and donated to museums, and a few that were retained by GM. The technologies developed by the EV1 program have been applied to GM's hybrids, fuel cell vehicles, and its future-looking E-Flex development program.

We can now see if the new Chevy Volt and other green tech cars have timed it right, keeping in mind the focus is the customer desire -- a key focus on why people want this technology.  With coaching clients, I keep this in mind in describing right action.  If large companies with huge investments at stake struggle in focusing on the right thing, we all could use some perspective on how to find and maintain our focus on the right thing.

Chevrolet’s Volt is a range-extended, plug-in electric car with a scheduled introduction in late 2010. The Fisker Karma, to be shown in production form next month, is a plug-in hybrid luxury sedan that’s set for sale in late 2009. The FCX Clarity, Honda’s innovative hydrogen fuel cell sedan, is in very limited production and being leased to a small number of consumers now. The recently unveiled battery electric MINI E will be leased to 500 select consumers in three states. Mitsubishi i-MiEV electric cars are on the highway in a demonstration program with Southern California Edison and PG&E. All five are exceptional examples of innovation at work.

U.S. Top Leadership Competency Declining, The Creativity Crisis | Newsweek

Deb:   The annual Art Fairs are wrapping up tomorrow in Ann Arbor, Michigan.  Note where the U.S. is losing ground in the leadership competency of creativity in this Newsweek science excerpt.  Consider the sustainable business of art, both artistic (Touch of Glass) and entrepreneurial (Paper-Feet.)  How does this match up with what is happening nationally in other countries?

The necessity of human ingenuity is undisputed. A recent IBM poll of 1,500 CEOs identified creativity as the No. 1 “leadership competency” of the future. Yet it’s not just about sustaining our nation’s economic growth.
 
All around us are matters of national and international importance that are crying out for creative solutions, from saving the Gulf of Mexico to bringing peace to Afghanistan to delivering health care.

One likely culprit is the number of hours kids now spend in front of the TV and playing videogames rather than engaging in creative activities. Another is the lack of creativity development in our schools. In effect, it’s left to the luck of the draw who becomes creative: there’s no concerted effort to nurture the creativity of all children.

Around the world, though, other countries are making creativity development a national priority.

  • In 2008 British secondary-school curricula—from science to foreign language—was revamped to emphasize idea generation, and pilot programs have begun using Torrance’s test to assess their progress. 
  • The European Union designated 2009 as the European Year of Creativity and Innovation, holding conferences on the neuroscience of creativity, financing teacher training, and instituting problem-based learning programs—curricula driven by real-world inquiry—for both children and adults. 
  • In China there has been widespread education reform to extinguish the drill-and-kill teaching style. Instead, Chinese schools are also adopting a problem-based learning approach.
Overwhelmed by curriculum standards, American teachers warn there’s no room in the day for a creativity class.   ...Researchers say creativity should be taken out of the art room and put into homeroom. ...Creativity isn’t about freedom from concrete facts. Rather, fact-finding and deep research are vital stages in the creative process. Scholars argue that current curriculum standards can still be met, if taught in a different way.
